89 members take oath in Haryana Assembly

  • Pro-tem Speaker Capt Ajay Singh Yadav administered oath to all 89 newly elected members of the 12th Haryana Legislative Assembly during the one-day session here. Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda was the first one to take oath.

    Five of the nine women legislators including Kiran Choudhry, Kavita Jain, Savitri Jindal, Geeta Bhukkal and Sharda Rathore, who were late for the session, were administered oath at the end. All Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) legislators were wearing green turban, while the Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC BL) members had a yellow scarf around their neck.

    Majority of the MLAs took oath in Hindi, including the chief minister, while nine MLAs — Parmvir Singh, Raghubir Singh Kadian, Harmohinder Singh Chatha, Aftab Ahmad, Yadvinder Singh, Kuldeep Sharma, Akram Khan, Kiran Choudhry and Sharda Rathore — read out the oath in English. Akali MLA Charanjeet Singh Rodi was the only one who took the oath in Punjabi.

    Tributes paid to H S Brar, Rao Birender Singh

    The Haryana Assembly paid tributes to late Haryana governor Harcharan Singh Brar, late chief minister Rao Birender Singh and a few other leaders who died since the last Assembly session in August, such as Late Andhra chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, former Union minister Sher Singh, former speaker Saroop Singh, and two former ministers Kartar Devi and Baldev Taya.
