Suspected militants exploded a car bomb in a market in Peshawar, crowded with women and children on Wednesday, killing 105 people and turning shops selling wedding dresses, toys and jewellery into a mass of burning debris and bodies.

The attack in the northwestern city of Peshawar was Pakistan's deadliest since 2007 and came as US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton visited the country to offer support for its fight against a strengthening al-Qaida and Taliban-led insurgency based along the Afghan border.

Clinton was three hours' drive away in the capital meeting Pakistani government leaders when the bomb went off in Peshawar. Her trip was not announced in advance in Pakistan for security reasons.

The bomb was directed squarely at civilians, unlike many previous blasts that have targeted security forces or government or Western interests. While no one claimed responsibility, the bomb appeared aimed at undercutting public and political support for an ongoing army offensive against militants close to the frontier and showing that the government was unable to keep its people safe.

The shaky, US-backed government said the bombing - the latest in a series this month - had strengthened its resolve to press ahead with the assault in the South Waziristan border region, a militant stronghold and a global training and operations hub for al-Qaida.

At least 60 of the dead were women and children. Most security analysts said the attack could backfire on the insurgents and lead more people to inform on them.

"He who kills a Muslim has no place but hell," said Mumtaz Ali, a wounded 19-year-old who was studying in a Muslim school attached to a mosque that was damaged in the attack. "We are taught the way of the prophet. We are not taught to kill innocent people."

Killings in Peshwar-nay, killing of mankind.By: S.L.Kaul | 29-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward Dear Sir, why do you divide the mankind, humanity and growth within the boundaries of religion and countries. The death caused due to bomb blasts, be it in India, Pakistan, Iraq or Afganistan, the dead are the creation of the "ALMIGHTY". He has put our senses to test. This particular blast in Meena Bazar is definitely most shocking, because, the Bazar was meant for ladies, who are the source of creation of mankind. On the one hand every body speaks of HUMAN RIGHTS and DEMOCRATIC RIGHTS but no body seems to come forward to tell these people as why do they cause such a destruction. Destruction of HUMAN VALUES and HUMANITY.Can any body say 'WHO PREACHES THIS VIOLANCE?'Oh! Leaders of the world, particularly of Afganistan, Iraq and Pakistan rise to the occasions and save your brotheren from this catastrophic killing and give up blame game. You know the prepatrators, educate them or counsel them else perish them, even if they belong to the same mankind.

Cowardly acts by killing innocent publicBy: Mohanavel | 29-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward This is a very cowardly act by the terrorists, by killing innocent people, you are not proving that you are capable of doing such things, but you are once again proving that you are ruthless, aimless and worthless cowards to fight against people who doesnt have any arms or ammunitions. If you are brave enough, fight with army. This clearly shows your cowardice not bravery! Hell bound terrorists! You worth nothing.
Why not beforeBy: naresh | 29-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward Taliban was created by Pakistan and the USA together. All these years they enjoyed all the cooperation with their governments. Till recently Taliban even doctored a deal with the goverment of Pakistan in the SWAT valley. So how come all of a sudden there is so much bloodshed of innocent civilians and shifting the blame on Taliban. Is this the policy of present day Pakistani and USA governments to "blow dhool" in the eyes of the world community for something more dangerous to come. I hope not as the world is still reeling from the policies of "Bush the Butcher" who is actually the center of the axis of evil.
Wake up By: Syed Muhammad Nadir | 29-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward For you all Indian/Pakistani sick souls I would prescribe Arundhati Roy`s LISTENING TO GRASSHOPPERS. Wake up India Pakistan or be ready for another round of Divide
