After IIT-Gandhinagar,Anand Agriculture University (AAU) has become the second institution in the state to be included under National Knowledge Network.
The Department of Information Technology under the Ministry of Communication and IT has recently included AAU as a centre of the National Knowledge Network (NKN) along with 26 others. The main objective of NKN is to interconnect libraries, laboratories, agricultural institutions enabling nationwide sharing of data and resources.
Raghuveersinh Parmar,AAU Director,IT,told Newsline: The University received an official communiqué (to that effect) from the Department of Information Technology a week ago. We have all the logistics in place and the university will soon begin sharing every important data that is helpful to other centres.
While,Parmar remains the nodal officer for NKN at AAU,Assistant Prof Krunal Kamani will be helping him in implementation of this project.
To connect all the networks in a single platform,we need a router. And we will need at least one week to make the system fully functional. The information in this system will be shared very easily and quickly as the bandwidth of this system will be 1 GB per second, he said.
The important objective of NKN service is to establish connectivity among member institutions to enable collaborative research in emerging areas such as climate modelling,bio-informatics and agriculture.
Moreover, the network will facilitate distance education in specialised fields such as medicine and other departments which depend heavily on wide-ranging research.
Parmar said 960 computers of AAU will be connected to this system.
