Kirloskar defeated Capgemini by eight wickets in the ABIL Corporate Cricket Challenger Cup 09 on Saturday.
Playing on a batsmen-friendly Deccan Gymkhana Ground pitch, Capgemini chose to bat after winning the toss, a decision that looked appropriate when they got 50 runs in just 5 overs. It looked as though Capgemini was all set to notch a big score thanks to some wayward bowling from the Kirloskar armers. Alok Roy from Capgemini caned the Kirloskar bowlers scoring 24 runs off 29 runs with two hits to the fence.
Later middle order Capgemini batsmen, Amit Kumar also pitched with a well-made 24 runs off 29 balls with 2 hits to the fence. But the highest scorer from the Capgemini innings were the extras conceded by Kirloskar tallying to a total of 40 extras. Dnyaneshwar Kumbhar from Kirloskar was the man with the golden arm who checked the run rate by scalping 3 wickets for 17 runs. Kirloskar skipper Jitendra Shende also took 3 wickets for 18 runs cleaning up the lower order. Capgemini eventually managed just 132 runs in 19 overs.
In reply, Kirloskar also started on an attacking note with their opener Kaustubh Deshpande scoring a rapidfire 42 runs off 34 balls with 4 boundaries and 2 sixes.
But the real hero was Digvijay Kamteker who massacred the opposition with an unbeaten 67 made off just 34 balls with 6 boundaries & 6 sixes. His blitzkrieg innings helped Kirloskar to overhaul the target in just 14 overs.
