Shrinivas Ramchandra Siras,Reader of Marathi at Aligarh Muslim University who was suspended after he was found to be gay, returned to the campus on Monday for the first time after the Allahabad High Court stayed his suspension.

Siras also got a letter from the university which informed him of the formation of a three-member inquiry committee to look into his case.

“My suspension order was served on February 9,and I have no idea why they waited so long to form an inquiry committee. That too, after the High Court intervened. I have also lost my promotion meanwhile,” a dejected Siras said.

“None in my department has asked me about my case, and Monday was no different,” said Siras. “I am waiting for a copy of the High Court order,so that I can claim my Chairmanship back. Only then the HC order will be truly served.” He was the Chair of the Department of Modern Languages at the time of his suspension.

AMU PRO Rahat Abrar refused to divulge whether the university would file a counter-affidavit to Siras’s petition.
