Riding high on the success of the World Cup victory,Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Suresh Raina on Tuesday met Chief of Army Staff V K Singh in New Delhi,where the Indian skipper was offered an honorary commission in the Territorial Army.
Dhoni is the second cricketer after Kapil Dev to be conferred with such an honour by the Army. Dhoni will be given the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. The two players met Singh at Army House in New Delhi where they spent nearly half-an-hour.
According to a statement released by the Army,the Indian captain was complimented on the remarkable performance of his team and the quality of leadership he displayed during the tournament.
Army chief exchanged pleasantries with the captain during which he was also offered an honorary commission in Territorial Army. The case for granting him honorary commission will now be processed as per procedure, said an Army spokesperson.
On Monday,Dhoni and his wife had met Air Force Chief P V Naik.
