The Board for Reconstruction of Public Sector Enterprises (BRPSE),the government agency that steps in if a public sector entity shows signs of going under, has shown its resentment at the way loss-hit Air India is being managed.
Upset with the mismanagement at Air India,BRPSE secretary Jivtesh Singh Maini wrote to Cabinet secretary KM Chandrasekhar two days ago that Air India could certainly be profitable but This is not the way how things can and how the matters have to work. The Air India has stated its inability to pay salaries to the staff.
Maini said that the BRPSE,which is tasked with the reconstruction of all Central public sector enterprises, was not even informed about the problems plaguing Air India, let alone consulted about this major issue.
A copy of the letter was marked to TK A Nair, principal secretary to the Prime Minister. Sources in the PMO said the letter was in the notice of the Prime Minister, and it was being followed up.
The government is aware of the problem and what needs to be done to improve the financial health of the carrier. Wait and watch, said a senior officer involved in the process.
