Holding that merely Naxal literature being recovered from somebody does not prove he or she is Naxal, the Gujarat High Court recently granted bail to seven persons who were arrested by Surat police and subsequently denied bail a Surat court. In February this year,Surat police had arrested 18 persons from across the country for suspected links with ultra-left banned outfits like CPI ML Janshakti and CPI (Maoist). Three of them Avinash Kulkarni,Bharat Puwar,Sulat Puwar were granted bail by Surat district and sessions court on July 18,2010. Seven others Jayram Goswami,Makka Chaudhary,K N Singh,Satyam Rao,Vishnu Ayyar,Niranjan Mohapatra and Ramu Puwar were denied bail by the same court following which they moved the HC. While granting bail to them a few days ago,the HC cited lack of evidence to prove they were members of any banned organisations.
