Attack on lecturer: HC rejects bail plea of PFI activists

Kerala High court today dismissed the bail applications of seven activists of radical outfit Popular Front of India (PFI) who are alleged to be involved in the attack on Prof T J Joseph.

The seven accused whose bail applications were dismised are Siyad, Sikander, Kamarudeen, Abdul Lateef, Moideen kutty, Shiyas and Mohammed Ali.

Justice V. Ramkumar who turned down their bail pleas said if the objective of the activity is to disturb harmony and tranquility of the society and create fear, it would be held to be a terror activity.

This is an open challenge to society, he said.

Prof. Joseph, Head of the Department of Malayalam of the Private Newman College, Thodupuzha had been attacked on July 4th for preparing a question paper which allegedly hurt the sentiments of the Muslim community.
