Autorickshaw driver held for possession of 1.76 kg charas

Mumbai, October 10: An autorickshaw driver was arrested by the BKC police for carrying around 2 kg of Charas on Friday. Nazimuddin Ansari (26) was carrying 1.76 kg of charas when he was arrested by PI Rajendra Kale, who was patrolling the area in the evening.

According to Kale, he tried to apprehend an autorickshaw driver after noticing him without uniform. Seeing the police vehicle, the driver tried to start the rickshaw and flee. “But, we stopped him,” Kale said. According to Kale, as the driver was not able to answer his questions properly, he got the driver searched and found him carrying 1.76 kg of charas.

The driver, identified as Ansari, a resident of Kurla, has been arrested for illegal possession of drugs, Kale said. He also said Ansari would be in police custody till October 17. According to the police, Ansari had given information about one Sayyed. As per Ansari, Sayyed procured drugs from Uttar Pradesh, said the police.

“Ansari can be jailed for 10 years for illegal possession drugs” said Senior Police Inspector R Perriera.
