On Friday,Lalit Modi was supposed to face the BCCIs disciplinary committee for the first time since his suspension as IPL commissioner. Instead,he continued his holiday abroad even as his lawyers submitted his communication in front of the disciplinary committee, coming armed with a list of requests as the committee decided to have its next hearing on July 27 in New Delhi.
Seeking a fair trial,Modi had demanded removal of two of the three members from committee IPL interim chairman Chirayu Amin and Arun Jaitley filing a legal notice for the same. On Thursday, however, the Bombay High Court had left it to the BCCI to consider the request, which was raised again by Modis lawyer Mehmood Abdi. We had a cordial meeting and the issue of recusal was put forth. The members said it would be considered, Abdi said.
The committee also accepted Modis request of not being present personally at the hearing,a first for the board. But with Modis charges being serious in nature and involving a lot of legal complexities, the BCCI has allowed him to present his case through lawyers.
The BCCI also informed Modis lawyers that the committee may want to question Modi in person and when he would be available. But both lawyers said they have no instructions to this effect and would inform the BCCI on the next hearing of the committee.
