Ten days after it sought permission from the West Bengal government for holding a rally at Lalgarh,the Trinamool Congress was on Monday granted permission for the August 9 gathering. The last time Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee held a rally in the Jungle Mahal area was at Jhargram in mid-2009.
On Sunday,Banerjee declared that the gathering would be an apolitical one and all such organisations which were against violence of any kind in Jungle Mahal were welcome. The rally will be held at Ramkrishna Vidyalaya ground at Lalgarh.
The state governments nod,however,comes with certain conditions. The four conditions laid down are:
* it will have to be over before darkness sets in;
* the minimum number of roads will have to be used to reach the venue;
* entry to the dais where Mamata and other leaders will be seated will have to be restricted; and
* if the government receives any IB input at the eleventh hour which requires some change in plans,that input will be shared with the party,and co-operation will be sought.
We will do everything to provide security to the Union minister, IG,Law and Order,Surajit Kar Purokayastha said.
The Trinamool Congress,while welcoming the state governments announcement,said it was unfortunate that the government was putting down some riders along with the permission.
The rally,to be organised by the Santrash Birodhi Mancha,will be attended by Swami Agnivesh and Medha Patkar.
CPM state secretary Biman Bose on Monday alleged that Banerjee was trying to open the door for the undercover Maoists to work publicly. Addressing a party gathering,Bose said the so- called apolitical platform created by her was a design to give space to those who were masked Maoists.
I am sure that many of the Maoist sympathisers and those working for them will be seen on her apolitical platform at Lalgarh, said Bose and blamed the Trinamool Congress for maintaining links with the banned outfit.
