Body found,leopard attack suspected

The body of a child,suspected to be that of an eight-year-old boy who went missing 12 days ago,was found in the woods near Aarey Milk Colony early on Sunday.

The body of a child,suspected to be that of an eight-year-old boy who went missing 12 days ago,was found in the woods near Aarey Milk Colony early on Sunday. According to officers at Aarey Sub-police station,the police found the body after a resident of Adarsh Nagar village in Aarey Milk Colony at Goregaon (East) informed them about having seen torn clothes and remains of a body when he had gone into the woods to relieve himself.

Police suspect that the child may have been mauled to death by an animal,possibly a leopard.

Police officers and the locals suspect that the victim was Sunny Soni,missing for 12 days. “We suspect that the child,who had been missing,was mauled by a leopard,as locals reported sighting of a leopard in the locality,” said assistant police inspector S Shinde. Police have registered an accidental death case,and are investigating further. Police have sent the body for post-mortem to the Bhagwati Hospital in Borivali (West).

Residents of the area have told police that Sunny was the eldest son of a daily-wage labourer and was staying with his parents and a younger brother at an Adarsh Nagar shanty. He was last seen playing outside his house with other children from the locality. His parents had filed a missing person report.

On January 10,a 30-year-old man was attacked by a leopard at Aarey Colony. Police said the victim suffered minor injuries in the incident.
