If the agencies are to be believed, there is a scandal in most of the Commonwealth Games projects. In fact, the Central Bureau of Investigation (cbi) has received over 300 complaints pertaining to irregularities in awarding several tenders, construction work and acquiring accessories and logistics. The complaints have been sent by contractors, employees in civic agencies, private persons and social groups, sources in CBI said.
Confirming the receipt of the complaints,CBI sources said they have not started formal investigations or scrutiny as of now.
Suddenly, the number of complaints are rising, said an official, adding that most of them pertained to works undertaken by civic agencies. Most of the complaints are against the PWD and MCD,which hold a major chunk of the Games projects, said the source.
The CBI clarified on Tuesday that it has not registered any Preliminary Enquiry or Regular Case (PE/RC) in connection with conduct of Commonwealth Games. But on June 16,it had registered a corruption case against MCD officials after the Central Vigilance Commission referred to it a street-lighting project where the tender was allegedly fudged to cause a loss of Rs 3.62 crore. Though the CVC lists this among the 16 Games projects checked by it,the CBI sources said the case was being investigating as part of the 20 corruption cases against MCD officials and had nothing to do with the CWG.
The CBI has filed the corruption case against MCD officials D K Sugan (Superintending Engineer),O P Mahla (Executive Engineer),Pradeep Rawat (Accountant),Raju V (Accountant),Gurcharan Singh (tender clerk),Bharat Singh (Assistant Engineer) and officials of Sweka Engineering Works Pvt Ltd (Rajouri Garden) which won the contract.
