Chhara duping case: CID nabs prime accused,wife

Officers of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID-Crime) arrested Ashok Jadeja and his wife,Nita Jadeja,from near Shyamal Crossroads in the Satellite area on Sunday.

The duo,along with their accomplices,is accused of duping a number of people from Chhara community of crores of rupees by promising them of double their money.

The arrests were made following a tip-off. A car and Rs 1.98 crore were recovered from the two. Deputy Superintendent of Police R K Patel,who is investigating the case,said they had information that after his meeting with the community members for a compromise collapsed,Jadeja was planning to escape from Ahmedabad.

“Acting on the input,we traced his car near Shyamal Crossroads and arrested him along with his wife. They will be produced before a local court on Monday,” he added.

According to Patel,Jadeja claims to have a BHMS degree from Patna University,which the police are yet to verify.

Patel said various cheating complaints were registered against Jadeja and his accomplices,according to which,they had duped people to the tune of Rs 12 crore. Five people have been arrested in the case so far.

Jadeja,who used to run a clinic in the Makarba area,had started sitting at a temple of Shikoter Mataji (deity of the Chharas),claiming to return double the amount offered to the deity. In April,Jadeja run away with all the money,following which a number of people lodged complaints against him with the Sarkhej police. Subsequently,the case was handed over to CID (Crime).
