Edeh Chidi scored a hat-trick after Ishfaq Ahmed started the rout as Mohun Bagan toyed with Kalighat MS in the Calcutta Football League (CFL) premier division match at home on Wednesday.
Ahmed opened the account in the 26th minute from a 25-yard freekick. Chidi got into the business after the break scoring his first goal in the 50th minute. Kalighat defender Daniel Abuchi handled Tomba Singh’s left-footer inside the box and Chidi converted the resulting penalty. Bagan’s Nigerian striker scored his second four minutes later tapping home a Tomba Singh floater. The two combined once again in the dying moments as Chidi completed his hat-trick.
The match saw Bagan’s Japanese midfielder Sueoka Ryuji’s make his Kolkata debut. He was given the No 15 shirt, which was Bhaichung Bhutia’s till the last season. Ryuji replaced Branco Cardozo in the 57th minute and became an instant favourite of the crowds with his speed, off the ball play and passing ability. He set up a fantastic opportunity for Chidi in the 70th minute. Ryuji’s real test, however, will be against tougher opponents.
