  • Wary of the US plans to support India's position in Asia, Beijing will seek to blunt Washington's overtures towards New Delhi driving home the point that America has to pay close attention to the dynamics of the relations between India and China, a top South Asia scholar has said.

"The completion of the civil nuclear deal will likely raise the confidence of the Indian defence establishment in the US as a reliable supplier and, therefore, set the stage for a much broader and deeper defence relationship between India and US over the next several years," Lisa Curtis of The Heritage Foundation has said in a Web Note.

Beijing may discuss in private and public forums the importance of simultaneous development of both India and China to try to show it welcomes India's rise. New Delhi, however, will pay closer attention to Beijing's actions along the disputed Indo-China border to gauge Chinese overall strategic intentions towards India.

"China's unhelpful stance at the recent NSG meetings on the Indo-US civil nuclear agreement was a reminder that Beijing remains uncomfortable with India's growing global role," Curtis said.

Washington needs to pay close attention to the dynamics of the Indo-China relations while the relationship between the world's oldest and the world's largest democracies grows.

"The future direction of relations between China and India, two booming economies that together account for one-third of the world's population, will be a major factor in determining broader political and economic trends in Asia directly affecting US interests," the South Asia scholar of the Conservative Think Tank said.

Tibet, Chinese and India By: kk | 26-Nov-2008 Reply | Forward I am surprised at Indian government attitude towards Tibetians. I think government should take a tough stand and defend the Tibetian right of homeland. They are different race to Chinese and they have full right to live the way they want and not under dictorial ruler. The Chinese will do anything to pressurise Indian to block Tibetian. I don't trust chinese as they are cunning and will do anything to serve their cause by bulling, intimidating and pressurising. They are not prepare to move an inch from the land they are occupying and it is time the Indian government took a tough stand and tell Chinese that the the time has changed and we are not prepared to put up with your bullying tactics.
China wary of India's growing global roleBy: KN Shivakumar | 26-Nov-2008 Reply | Forward To be true, Indian territory extended around Mount Kailash and Mansarovar and entire of Tibet, Nepal and most parts of East-Asia during the Mahabharat period. Hence China shouid not only retreat from Tibet, but also return back the territory surrounding Mount Kailash and Mansarovar back to India, including other territories occupied over a period of time. If not today, we will certainly take back all our lost territories in the days to come. Hence, it is in China's best long term territorial integrity that it is high time it gave up its claims on Indian territories and better learn to live as a neighbour. Else, time wouid teach hegemonistic China a befitting lesson it would never ever forget.

China wary of Indias growth.By: Varghese Joseph | 26-Nov-2008 Reply | Forward At last the Indian side and my country India have agreed and realised that China doesnt want to see India coming up economically. Hence, I wish that we Indians should have a fixed timetable for our plans atleast we should forsee the future now. Forget CPI(M) and BJP and the whole citizens in India knows that they are our stumbling blocks in development of India. But when the whole population is behind them(our country) nobody cannot say anything. Govt. Of India or the UPA should realise these points and do the needfull. Border issue with China, leave it, and if we become more powerful China automatically will bend its nerve to us. Hence, focus on development first. Good luck to India and for UPA.
ChinaBy: Raj | 26-Nov-2008 Reply | Forward Only way to crush China is DO NOT BUY any of their products and that will for sure bring them down or realize how important it is for them to have good relationship with its neighbors. They treat almost all of them in a bad way and they are using Pakistan to bring India's economy down and they are falling. Pakistan wake up before you are drowned competely. You will take longer time to recover if do not act now. Let us work together and grow.
