Chirag United SC began their campaign in Calcutta Football League (CFL) in style, scoring a resounding 2-0 victory against BNR at Barasat Stadium on Tuesday. Lal Kamal Bhowmick opened the scoring in the first half through a spot-kick after Parveen Kumar was tripped inside the box by BNR defender Shyam Mondal. Then it was Gauranga Dutta’s turn to double the lead after the break. Under-19 sensation Ram Malik, Chirag’s forward, had an impressive game, displaying some lively skills down the flanks.

Talking about the team’s good run in the I-League so far, Chirag coach Subrata Bhattacharya said: “Our defensive organisation needs to be more impact if we want to continue this good run and improve our position (they are on the second spot in the I-League at this stage). We have scored 13 goals and conceded 11.”

The club management meanwhile is mulling over the idea of conducting a residential preparatory camp ahead of the Federation Cup that begins on December 18.
