Social organisations and political parties in the city celebrated the 119th birth anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar on Wednesday. Events like public meetings,tree plantation and distribution of notebooks to needy students were carried out on the occasion.
In a public meeting,state president of Matang Front of Republican Party of India Hanumant Sathe said the country remained united because of the Constitution Of India written by Ambedkar. Sathe garlanded the statue of Ambedkar near collectors office.
Around 5,000 students of Maharashtra Cosmopolitan Education Society participated in a rally from Azam campus to Ambedkar statue near collectors office. In the rally led by Latif Magdum,students carried posters saying Educate,Organise and Fight for Rights; Long Live Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar.
The National Social Justice Forum carried out a tree plantation drive. Vice-president of Pune Cantonment Board Sangeeta Pawar was the chief guest.
Vande Mataram organisation distributed 200 copies of Sambhaji Chougules book on Dr Ambedkar. Bapusaheb Chindhe presided over the function. President of Akhil Bharatiya Samajwadi Adhyapak Sabha Bhai Vaidya inaugurated the drinking water facility at Ambedkars statue near collectors office. Awami Mahaj provided the facility.
Janmanch Foundation distributed notebooks and fruits to students residing in Dandekar bridge slums. While Pune Navnirman Sena distributed food to around 2,500 activists,Janseva Cooperative Bank distributed cold drinks.
Social organisations like Maratha Mahasabha,Bauddha Dhamma Seva Sangh,Akhil Bhimpura Bhimsainik,Maharashtra Rajya Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Dalit Mitra Sangh,Akhil Bharatiya Mahatma Phule Samata Parishad,Samajwadi Janparishad,Rashtriya Dalit Congress garlanded Ambedkars statue.
Party workers of minorities cell of Pune City Congress Committee,scheduled caste and scheduled tribe cell of NCP and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena also organised various programmes to pay tribute to Ambedekar.
