Clean up Cabinet,drop Chidambaram,Sibal: BJP

BJP calls the the expected Union Cabinet reshuffle a cosmetic exercise.

Preparing the ground to term the expected Union Cabinet reshuffle a cosmetic exercise, the Opposition BJP on Sunday demanded dropping P Chidambaram and Kapil Sibal from the Council of Ministers, claiming both were facing allegations of corruption.

The BJP,which had been demanding the ouster of Chidambaram, brought Sibal in its line of fire after a public interest litigation was filed in the Supreme Court demanding a CBI probe against the Telecom Minister for allegedly arbitrarily reducing the penalty imposed on Reliance Infocomm, violating UASL conditions.

Sources in the BJP said the partys aggressive attack on Chidambaram had an RSS sub-text. Investigations into the Ajmer,Mecca Masjid and Samjauta Express blasts cases have been proceeding at a very fast pace ever since Chidambaram took over as the Home Minister and the Sangh has been waiting for an opportunity to hit back at him.

BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said while the Prime Minister claimed to have a clean image, there were several corrupt in his Council of Ministers. The Prime Minister, who is presiding over one of the most corrupt governments, must clean up his Cabinet and must show the door to those corrupt ministers, he said.

The BJP reiterated its charge that Chidambaram had a role in the allocation of 2G spectrum licences. Targeting Sibal,Hussain said: A private company, which was facing a penalty of Rs 650 crore at Rs 50 crore per circle, was reduced to a mere Rs 5 crore by Sibal. Who gave him the right to do that?

Sibal has already denied the allegations and has termed the petition motivated and defamatory.
