During her meeting with Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen and Sugato Bose,chairman of the mentor group of the Presidency University,Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday stressed on the state governments commitment to work for excellence in higher education in the state.
The Chief Minister also discussed the issue with several academicians at the sidelines of a programme held to release Professor Boses book on Subhash Chandra Bose.
The Chief Minister has assured the recommendations of the mentor group will be given due weightage,Professor Sen told media persons.
Explaining the implications of formation of a mentor group, Sen said the initiative reflects the institution has re-established its contact with civil society. He said at the time of formation of the institution the civil society had played an important role.
Professor Sen also pointed that upgradation of the University will open up new avenues of research. Both Professor Sen and Professor Bose said the mentor group will work in tandem with the vice- chancellor of the University and its existing council.
Professor Sen further said the advice of the mentor group can also be utilised for upgradation of other universities in the state.
