Attacking Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for their utterances at the Congress plenary session,NDA convenor and Janata Dal (United) president Sharad Yadav said here on Monday that their sole intention seemed to be to divert the attention of the people from the twin issues of corruption and price-rise. It seems the sole motive behind the Congress plenary session was to hoodwink people, Yadav said. The rhetoric of the Congress leaders, according to him, gave one an impression that they were leading an Opposition party. He said their shrill tone on issues such as probity in public life and corruption made one wonder whether they were addressing the god or people within their own party. Who is responsible for scams?, he asked, demanding a clear answer from the government. He said the ruling party skirted the pressing issue of price-rise,which affected the common man. Reacting to the rejection of the Oppositions demand for a JPC probe into the 2G scam by the PM,he said nothing short of a JPC was acceptable to the Opposition. Yadav said considering the PMs offer to appear before the PAC,the government had been left with no justification to reject a JPC probe. After all,it had opposed the Oppositions demand arguing that it may summon the PM. The PAC,he pointed out,had six months left of its tenure, while the scam needed to be examined threadbare.
