Cong mother of graft: Maya

In the backdrop of popular anti-corruption movement in the country, the supremo of the BSP,which supports the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre from outside, accused the Congress of being mother of corruption in the country while addressing a convention of party workers here on Thursday.

With the ruling Congress using every opportunity to corner her in the run-up to the Assembly elections early next year,Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Thursday attacked the Congress over corruption, price rise and land acquisition law.

In the backdrop of popular anti-corruption movement in the country, the supremo of the BSP,which supports the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre from outside, accused the Congress of being mother of corruption in the country while addressing a convention of party workers here on Thursday.

She sought to turn the tables on the Congress and Opposition BJP for their attempts to corner her government over the issue of land acquisition after four persons were killed recently during farmer-police clashes in Greater Noida.

Mayawati,in this context, cited examples from the Congress-ruled Haryana,Rajasthan,Delhi and Maharashtra as well as the BJP-ruled Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh to allege that farmers were agitated in these states against land acquisition policies of respective governments.

The BSP will put pressure on the government to frame a national policy of land acquisition in the forthcoming monsoon session of Parliament and will resort to gherao of Parliament if need be, Mayawati told her party workers, according to a press communique.

The UP CM also criticised the UPA government over the issue of price rise and highlighted the BSPs agitation against the recent hike in petroleum prices to flaunt the partys commitment to fighting against the government over the issue of inflation.

Sources said Mayawatis address to party workers was aimed at gearing them for the municipal elections in Delhi early next year. In this context, she demanded regularisation of illegal colonies in the capital and alleged step-motherly treatment by the Congress-led state government towards the migrants from UP and Bihar.
