  • Here are some remedies that use cinnamon to treat ailments:

Colds: A tablespoon of honey, preferably warm, mixed with one third of a teaspoon of powdered cinnamon when taken for two to three days, gives relief from colds.

Indigestion: To obtain relief from indigestion, boil half teaspoon of cinnamon powder in a glass of water. To this, add half a teaspoon of honey and a pinch of pepper powder. One tablespoon of this decoction taken shortly after meals, provides relief from indigestion.

Taking small amounts of cinnamon to flavor foods is a great idea but when taking larger doses, especially if you are diabetic, ought to be done in consultation with the treating physician. Altering the dose of all medication including the anti-diabetic ones should be done only under medical supervision. Cinnamon also has a blood thinning effect, which is why those on anti-clotting medication should report the consumption of all supplements (including spices/herbs) to their physician. Pregnant women are advised to refrain from the use of large doses of cinnamon as a supplement.
