The Civil Aviation Ministry on Thursday postponed the second hearing in the case where airline JetLite is facing charges of negligence and allegedly causing the death of a passenger on board.
A ministry official told The Indian Express that JetLite has sought additional time. The airline said that it received the intimation regarding the meeting at a short notice so they could not send their representative, the official said.
The meeting has now been scheduled for January 6. Officials said that a representative from the air safety regulator,Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGCA),will also be asked to be present at the next hearing.
The 76-year-old victims daughter Deepika Chohan has accused the airline of causing the death of her father who was travelling in a JetLite flight from Lucknow to Delhi in May.
Meanwhile,Chohan met Civil Aviation Secretary Nasim Zaidi and Joint Secretary Rohit Nandan to press for punitive action against the airline.
On May 27,Chohans father Lt Col Sudhir Kumar had complained of uneasiness soon after the flight took off from Lucknow. He later died of a cardiac arrest.
Chohan had claimed in her complaint that her father had died on board, whereas Jet Lite denied it.
