Concerned about the situation in West Asia due to Irans nuclear programme and Syrias internal affairs,India,China,Russia,Brazil and South Africa on Thursday agreed that the issues in these countries should be resolved only through dialogue.
PM Manmohan Singh said on Thursday,We had an in-depth discussion on the situation in West Asia. We agreed that a lasting solution to the problems in Syria and Iran can only be found through dialogue.
The Delhi declaration a 50-para outcome document of the summit said that the situation concerning Iran cannot be allowed to escalate into a conflict,the disastrous consequences of which will be in no ones interest. BRICS acknowledged that Iran has a crucial role to play for peaceful development and prosperity of a region of high political and economic relevance.
Recognising Irans right to peaceful use of nuclear energy consistent with its international obligations,the BRICS declaration said,(We)…support resolution of the issues involved through political and diplomatic means and dialogue between the parties concerned,including between the IAEA and Iran,and in accordance with the provisions of the relevant UN Security Council Resolutions.
On Syria,the BRICS leaders expressed deep concern and called for an immediate end to all violence and violations of human rights in that country.
