Delhi pavilion celebrates centenary year at Trade Fair

The pavilion,this year,celebrates the centenary year of the capital — in pictorial style.

The exhibition also showcases evolution of Delhi from the Mughal era and the emblem of modern Delhi — the Metro rail. Also on display are posters of various public awareness campaigns,such as save the girl child,pulse polio and environment conservation.

A special wall also displays pictures of the transfer of power from the British capital in Calcutta,to Delhi.

The pavilion,named “Royal Delhi” is an ode to the Mughal era,with the entrance and front façade representing the Mughal capital of Shahajanabad. Huge gates are carved in red stone to represent the gates that guarded the Walled City,with stalls named after the traditional jewellery and clothes markets of Delhi.

The pavilion was inaugurated on Monday by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.

Constables of the women’s jail are the salespersons at the Tihar Jail stall. “For the next two weeks,we can drop our regular duty to sell products made by our inmates. We feel like proud mothers,” a constable told Newsline. Cosmetic products like face packs and gulab jal made by female inmates and handicraft items made out of carved wood are available at the stall.
