A five-member European Union (EU) delegation that arrived in Srinagar on a two-day visit to assess the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, met various separatist leaders on Tuesday.

Led by Sweden Ambassador to India, Lars Olof Lindgren, the team included Belgian Ambassador Jean M. Deboutte, Spanish Ambassador Ion de la Riva, Second Secretary (Political Affairs) in the Swedish embassy Oscar Schlyter and EU Ambassador Danielle. They discussed issues relating to human rights violation in the state.

The delegation met Mohammed Yasin Malik, the chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF).

Malik said he told the EU delegation that people in Kashmir would respond to the call of the international community.

"I told them that people in Kashmir respond the call of the international community. Now it is the responsibility of the international community to help to resolve this issue. If you will not help to resolve this issue, then you are pushing Kashmiri people back to the wall," said Malik.

The delegation also met with Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the chairman of the separatist All Parties Hurriyat (freedom) conference.

Lord Olof Lindgren, the head of the European Union delegation, said they were concerned about the human rights violation in Kashmir. "Well, there are a lot of human rights issue that we are looking into. I cannot go into the details of those but those are of concern to the European Union and we discussed them with the Indian government and we have met the Human Rights Commissioner in the state. So we will follow these things with interest like we follow the situation in all parts of India," added Lord Olof Lindgren.

19th January 1990By: Suneelk | 01-Dec-2009 Reply | Forward I am one of the victims of present turmoil in Kashmir, I can't forget that night of 19th January 1990, when the louspeaker from the mosques annouced that all KP's should leave the valley immidiately or face the consequeces without their female folk.. It is because of Sh.Jagmohan I alive today.. so please don't blame Sh.Jagmohan for the genocide of KP's. we should blame the Islamic Terrorist who came from outside Kashmir supported by our neibhours for the present turmoil in Kashmir.
DRBy: R pandey | 30-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward SIR I have personally seen the hindu pandits lined up and living as asylum seekers trying to locate their loved ones in the nineties.Nobody from the international community came to talk about them. Do muslims alone have acopyright over human rights? If they are so wottird about human rights why dont they fight for the rights for the women in saudi arabia? The people in Iran why do they not protest against illegal female circumcision in Africa? The atrocities happened during the regime of Saddam? And the international community does not have the guts to ask the saudis about their human rights. It is the spineless Indian government that allows such gestures.
Whose "Jagir" is Kashmir a - Not Manmohan'sBy: Annoyed Indians | 29-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward WE AS INDIANS ARE VERY DISTURBED AND ASK THIS PM MANMOHAN AS TO WHY THIS EU TEAM IS EVEN ALLOWED TO VISIT KASHMIR AND THE TERRORISTS? MANMOHAN MUST BE REMINDED BY PEOPLE OF INDIA THAT KASHMIR AND INDIA IS NOT THE "JAGIR" OF HIS FATHER THAT HE CAN MORTGAGE IT AS HE PLEASES.

Kick out the seperatistsBy: Virendra Malla | 25-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Will any country except India allow such blatant drama of seperatists in its own country. Had it ben China or India they would have been shhot dead by government firing squad. But here under the ame of democracy and a pro minority weak government, seperatists are being pampered by allowing them to meet foreign delegations and also by allowing them to tour Pakistan and China. No one cares for Hindus of the valley who have left all their belongings in Kashmir and have moved away. Media is silent with its mouth gagged by money from congress. There will surely be a day when Hindu will pick up arms to protect himself against the traitors of this country.

You forgot ScotlandBy: Naren | 25-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Well said, Mr Kishore but you forgot the separatist sentiment in Scotland. These Hypocrites had no problem with human rights violation in Georgia back in 2007. We should threaten recognition of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, if these liars keep on continuing with this nonsense.
