Employees at PAU battle for revised salaries, arrears

Despite government grants, the issue of revised salaries in the state refuses to get resolved. While the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) non teaching employees have received their revised salaries for the months of November, December and January, their arrears that have been due since August last year are still pending.
Similarly, the teaching faculty of PAU , which was hopeful of revised pay cheques after receiving government grant last year, is still awaiting the new pay cheques as the 80 per cent grant that has to come from the ICAR is yet to be received.
Dr G S Saroa, President, PAU Teaching Association, said, “The state government has already given its share but the money from the ICAR is yet to come. We have been told that the ICAR has sent the file to the Union Finance Minister and would take some time.”
In the call of PFCUTO, the employees of PAU wore black badges to work on Friday. The employees were protesting on five issues, including revised pay scales, clearance of arrears, new recruitment, retirement age in accordance with the recommendation of the Ministry of Human Resource Development and full pension benefits after completing 20 years in service.
Meanwhile, the PAU non-teaching employees, who had a reason to cheer after receiving revised pay scales from November onwards, are now worried. Lakhwinder Singh Sandhu, Vice President, PAU Non Teaching Employees Union said, “The Punjab government released the Rs 5-crore grant under the planned scheme, which means it cannot be spent for salaries. PAU somehow managed this but now there are arrears that are pending since the month of August 2009.
