Environment Ministry orders action against Kerala cricket body

The Ministry said the construction violated Coastal Zone Regulation notification of 1991.

Ruling that the Kerala Cricket Association had violated coastal laws while constructing a new stadium in Ernakulam district,the Environment Ministry has directed the state coastal zone management authority to take appropriate action against the cricket body.

The Ministry said the construction violated Coastal Zone Regulation notification of 1991 by land reclamation,disturbing the seawater course and destruction of mangroves. It

said the Kerala State Coastal Zone Management Authority (KSCZMA) had already issued a notice to the KCA to stop construction while the state forest department started a probe into the destruction of mangroves on 23.5 acres of land after registering an FIR. The ministry asked the KSCZMA to report within 15 days.
