Five-year-old Monu and his brother Sahil, 7, were hit by a speeding Skoda car on Sunday morning. Monu died on the spot, while Sahil is battling for life at the Sunder Lal Jain Hospital. The siblings from a J J Colony in Wazirpur were playing behind a stationery Blueline bus when the car, coming at high speed from the opposite direction, rammed into them. Their father runs a small shop nearby. Eyewitness accounts say the illegal bus stop near the colony, where the Blueline bus of route number 142 was parked, is partly to blame. They said the children, who were playing on a parked scooter just behind the bus, suddenly jumped on the road and came in the way of the recklessly-driven car. Locals beat up the car’s driver and damaged the car. When alerted about the accident, a police party rushed to the spot. They have arrested the driver and impounded the offending vehicle. The Ashok Vihar police have registered a case of rash and negligent driving against the driver.
