The Indira Gandhi International Airport suffered two hours of CAT-III dense fog on Thursday morning,affecting flight schedules that forced at least eight diversions and delayed over 50 flights.
The airport suffered CAT-III dense fog on both runways from 7.30 am till 9.30 am on Thursday. The runway visibility during the period remained below 200 m, Director-in-charge of IGI Met Department,R K Jenamani,said,adding that the fog could be attributed to the slight rainfall early this week. Cloudy weather is likely to stay another 2-3 days. Foggy season is winding up and we can expect such occasional spells of fog only till the first week of March, Jenamani said.
Low visibility procedures had to be implemented at the IGI Airport around 7.30 am and nearly 56 flights operated under Category III conditions,airport officials said.
