Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has written to the Prime Minister seeking an apology from the German Embassy or a clarification on remarks made by a visiting delegation including MPs from the country in Ahmedabad on Thursday.

The delegation had said Modi could not be allowed in any of the EU countries. The MPs will submit their report on human rights situation in Orissa and Gujarat to the human rights committee of the German parliament.

In a strongly worded letter,Modi said the delegation’s statements tarnished the image of Gujarat and the country. He asked the PM to take action. While there is freedom of expression in India, foreign officials cannot make statements intended to tarnish the image of state or federal governments,he wrote, adding the statements about human rights and the law and order situation in Gujarat were made after just a day’s visit.

The delegation consisted of Ute Granold,MP of Christian Democrat Union,Pascal Kober,MP of Free Democrat Party,CDU parliamentary group chairman Jan Bittner and Otmar Oehring, director of Misso,a German human rights NGO.
