Internet search engine giant Google has won a lawsuit against a 17-year-old schoolboy from the state, who had acquired a domain name,googblog.com.

To get the rights of the blogsite registered in the name of Herit Shah from Surendranagar,Google had moved the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO),a specialised agency of the United Nations,on March 26,2009.

Property Rights (IPR),ordered Herit to transfer the domain ownership to the US-based Internet giant.

The domain name — googblog.com — had become a bone of contention between him and Google,as ‘goog’ is the latter’s stock sticker at the NASDAQ.

Herit, however, said he had no regrets for obtaining a domain name somewhat similar to Google.

“Google has made me realise my worth by filing a lawsuit against me at WIPO,” said Herit,a student of the C U Shah High School, who cleared his Class XII (general steam) examinations on Thursday.

“I bought the domain on September 25,2008 and posted blogs on computers, multimedia and electronic gadgets on it. I got a letter from a Gurgaon-based law-firm,Ranjan Narula Associates in January this year on behalf of Google, saying that I should handover the domain name to them under the IPR norms,” said Herit.

After he replied to the letter, defending his case,Google filed the lawsuit at WIPO. “Last week,WIPO sent me an email, stating this domain name needs to be transferred to Google as the latter deserves it,” he added.

Herit, the son of a bank clerk, said he has already started the process to transfer the ownership of the domain name. Interestingly, soon after the news broke here,an Ahmedabad-based news agency hired the boy.
