Dr Deepak Kaura,who was awarded four years of imprisonment by a local court for creating circumstances that led his wife Dr Babita Kaura,aka Dolly,to commit suicide,the Punjab and Haryana High Court today granted bail to Dr Kaura. Also the High Court has suspended his sentence and admitted his appeal against the imprisonment awarded to him.
The deceased,Dr Babita,who was working as assistant professor in the Department of Immunopathology at the PGI,allegedly had strained relations with her husband,following which she committed suicide on the night of January 18 in 2005. Initially,the police took it as a suicide case. However,the police had later filed a charge-sheet for abetment to suicide against Dr Kaura. The sister-in-law of the deceased,Deepali Kohli,was reportedly with the deceased at her Sector-24 residence when she committed suicide after jumping from the third floor. On July 12,Kaura was awarded four years in jail along with a penalty of Rs 2,000.
