Hafiz Mohammad Saeed
Age – Unknown
Head of Lashkar-e-Toiba/Jama’at-ud-Da’awa
The erstwhile “professor” from the University of Engineering and Technology (Lahore) Hafiz Mohammad Saeed now heads Lashkar-e-Toiba – one of the most dreaded terrorist organisations in the Indian sub-continent. The Indian intelligence agencies believe that the Lashkar was set up in 1990 to give the ISI a direct role in terrorist operations in Jammu and Kashmir.
Saeed has been widely quoted as stating India, Israel and US to be his prime enemies and has threatened to launch ‘Fidayeen’ attacks on American interests too.
In India, the Lashkar has been involved in numerous strikes in the Jammu and Kashmir region while investigations have pointed towards their involvement in bomb blasts in New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Varanasi and Gujarat.
The attack on the Indian Parliament on December 13, 2001 was alleged to have been carried out by the Lashkar and since then that the Indian Govt has been asking the Govt of Pakistan to handover Saeed to face trial in India.
Lashkar was included in the Terrorist Exclusion List by the US Government on December 5, 2001.
