Social activist Anna Hazare,who is at loggerheads with the Central government over the Lokpal Bill,said he would stick to his decision to go on a fast from August 16 despite threats and was even willing to face bullets. Hazare was in Mumbai to inaugurate a zonal office of India Against Corruption.
Hazare said former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had sought the civil societys suggestions while making the 73rd and 74th amendments to the Constitution. He said Gandhi had sent letters to more than five lakh villagers seeking their opinion on the changes made for implementing Panchayati Raj.
Pressing for a strong Lokpal Bill,Hazare has announced an agitation from August 16 in New Delhi and urged citizens to switch off lights from 8 to 9 pm that day.
Speaking about the differences of opinion over the inclusion of the Prime Minister under the ambit of the law,Hazare said it was the responsibility of PM to ensure that his team members had impeccable character.
