Hotelier in soup for letting in one of the 3 Idiots

The owner of a hotel in Mughalsarai,where actor Aamir Khan stayed during his three-day agyatwas in Varanasi to promote his film 3 Idiots has landed in trouble for hosting the Bollywood actor without proper verification.

Vansha Narain Singh,owner of Hotel Saraswati,was served a notice Tuesday to explain why he did not conduct a proper verification before allowing Aamir Khan to stay in his hotel,Chandauli SP Laxmi Narain said. He said “strict action” would be taken against Singh if he failed to give a proper explanation of why didn’t do a proper verification.

Asked why he did not do a proper check,Singh said Aamir was wearing a burqa (veil),“so we could not ask him to show his face. He booked seven rooms in the hotel in the name of Akram Shah and company.”

He said police had instructed hoteliers “that in view of the terror threat,they must verify properly any person before allowing him to stay in their hotels”. Besides,hoteliers are bound to intimate the police about any suspect staying in their hotels,Narain said.

Aamir arrived in Varanasi on Friday and spent the next two days searching for the birthplace of his mother Zeenat. The Chandauli SP has been asked to investigate the matter by a deputy SP rank officer.

ADG (Law & Order) Brij Lal said 10 people,including Aamir Khan,had checked-in the hotel at 6.45 pm on December 9 and left the place on December 13. The room was booked in the name of Akram Shah of 57 Janki Devi,School Road,Mahendu,Mumbai. The police have been asked to verify the address mentioned in the hotel register.

Meanwhile,DGP Karamvir Singh issued a circular to the DIGs and the SPs across the state to ensure that no hotels,lodges or guesthouses violate the norms.
