The 30,000-odd cricket fans, who gathered at the Sardar Patel Stadium at Navrangpura in Ahmedabad to watch the 20-20 matches of Indian Cricket League (ICL) Season 2, surprised one and all.
Amazed to see such a huge audience for the match between the Ahmedabad Rockets and the Lahore Badshahs on October 19, Executive Board Member of ICL Kiran More, said: “We are happy to see that the players as well as the crowd are enjoying it. Everyone can clearly see the efforts that has been put for the tournament”.
Speaking to mediapersons, he said that the huge crowd shows the increasing popularity of ICL in the country.
The stadium management expressed satisfaction that the Rs 10 crore spent to upgrade the stadium, which includes Rs 4 crore for floodlights, had not gone waste.
“I have never seen so many foreign cricketers playing together in the city in my entire life. The ICL is attracting lots of youngsters to the city,” said Dinesh Shah, a spectator.
Another spectator Rohit Patel said: “I would feel deprived each time I watched the Indian Premier League (IPL) on television, as such matches never took place in Ahmedabad. But now, I can enjoy watching the ICL matches”.
