No wonder his films come with a ‘warning’ from the health department! Just kiddin’ but that’s the absolute nonsensical sense actor Adam Sandler makes. And despite all the farting, ogling, squeaking, fooling he pulls off in his films, the Hollywood actor shines on the billboard of comedy giants. Out with his new film, ‘You Don’t Mess With The Zohan’, we, through an e-mail interview, got to know the man behind the actor, producer, writer and musician and the choices he’s made.
“Right from childhood, I was always drawn towards stand-up comedy and everyone thought I was a natural comic. After a short stint in television acting and script writing for ‘Saturday Night Live’, I felt I enjoyed acting the most, and decided to focus on that,” he types picking comedy as his specialisation. “Making people laugh is the most serious business.”
We can’t help but notice the underdog element in Sandler’s works, most of which appears to be inspired from some real life characters and stories. “All of us, at some point in time has been, or has at least, felt like the underdog. The top dog may not always be liked by everyone, but everyone loves it when the underdog makes it big. He just connects with his audience all of us identify with him. The underdog gets into all these tricky situations and has all these funny moments which make up for the comedy in a movie...why would someone want to know the story of a guy who is the best in everything and has everything? It is always more interesting to know about the guy who has to face the odds to reach his goal.”
