With the state administration objecting to any political party holding a public meeting at Lalgarh,Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed fears that she might be physically assaulted by CPM cadres during her August 9 visit to the Maoist-affected area. The Trinamool Congress chief has already sent party MP Suvendu Adhikari to oversee arrangements for her planned rally there. Earlier,Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee had said that no political party can hold a rally in the area without the administration’s permission as it is under Section 144 CrPC.

“After they (the CPM) have been defeated politically, they might have a plan to eliminate me. They are collecting my daily programme and route map. CPM cadres and a minister are plotting to kill my party MP,Suvendu Adhikari. They have designed a suicide squad to kill Suvendu,” Banerjee alleged at a press conference at her Kalighat residence on Saturday. “Despite all these odds,I am confident of visiting Lalgarh. I have informed the Union government that I shall visit Lalgarh. The state government will be responsible for any eventuality,” she warned.

On Friday Adhikari had faced blockades on the road to Lalgarh and charged that the CPM had created the obstructions by felling trees and digging up roads. Banerjee alleged that the ruling CPM cadres are killing Trinamool supporters on the pretext that they were Maoists.
