The Bangalore police will pursue deportation of two Iranian women booked for offences, including assaulting a policeman,if they were found guilty.
Additional Commissioner of Police (law and order) M R Pujar said a report of the incident had been sent to the Iranian embassy but no official had contacted the police as yet.
Attacking policemen on duty is a serious offence. It is a non-bailable offence and entails two-three years in prison, said Inspector at the Commercial Street Station S Badrinath.
For Muslim women,to be drinking is a grave offence. This would have had more serious consequences if it was in Iran, said another officer.
On the night of February 17,Azara Fazle Khode,28,and Farima Fatima,26,were arrested after their outing to a pub in the central Bangalore area. They were found driving their car without a valid driving licence and with alcohol levels above the prescribed norms. They were also accused of beating up a policeman.
While Farima is an engineering graduate from the BMS College in Bangalore and is currently pursuing an MBA degree, her friend Azara is pursuing a BSc degree in biotechnology at the Dayanand Sagar College in Bangalore.
