The re-examination was ordered after an admission scam was busted during the initial examinations in September. The entire process was cancelled and re-examination ordered for Sunday.
Manoj Kumar from Bihar was found appearing for the examination in place of Dinesh Kumar Sachan of Kanpur. Though they were suspicious, the invigilators initially allowed Manoj to take the examination.
Soon after the paper was over, Manoj was interrogated by the faculty members. After sometime, he admitted being a proxy candidate.
“His picture on the admit card was not matching. We still let him sit for the examination, as it would have disturbed other candidates,” said Dr Abbas Mahdi, controller of examination at CSMMU. Manoj had met Dinesh at a coaching institute in Delhi, he added.
Later, Manoj was handed over to the police. An FIR of fraud under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code was lodged against him at the Chowk police station. Sources in the police said Manoj had not revealed any links to a professional gang of “munnabhais”.
