MUMBAI, OCTOBER 27 : Rahul raj Kundan Prasad Singh is suspected to have been “very angry and possibly off-balance” much before he got on to the bus. Policemen who visited the hotel room in Andheri (East) where Singh stayed said he smashed a window pane and also broke a bulb in the room. “These seem to be the result of his rage against something,” said a police officer.

Singh, the officer said, reached the city early on October 26 and checked in the four-storey Imperial Palace hotel. “He paid a deposit of Rs 2,500 and was given a room on the second floor. The rest of the day, he spent roaming around in the city. He withdrew some money from a local HDFC Bank branch,” said the officer.

Hotel workers told The Indian Express that Singh rented an air-conditioned room. “He checked in at around 1 am on the morning of October 26, left the room early this morning without checking out. As his luggage was in the room, we thought he would return,” said a hotel staffer. Police said Singh’s bag had certificates showing he had studied X-ray technology. “The certificates suggest he had come here to look for employment,” said the police officer.

Asked if killing him could have been avoided, Additional Commissioner of Police (Central) Sadanand Date said: “All we knew was he had a firearm and there were frightened passengers nearby. We got to know from witnesses that he fired a few rounds and that a passenger was injured in the hip. We feel we applied reasonable and necessary force in the situation.”

question is: when did he acquire the weapon? did he have it on himself when he came to Mumbai?
Rahul Raj by Alka on 2008-10-29 13:25:13.131704+05:30
Mumbai Police feels that killing Rahul Raj was a right thing but beating MNS goondas is not right even if they kill innocent North Indians. Shame on Mumbai Poice.
Politicians Shame. by (Dr.) B.N, Anand on 2008-10-29 12:12:11.704874+05:30
It is a pity that the politicians from Bihar are making an unnecessary hue and cry about police having killed the Patna youth in the encounter in a local Mumbai bus. It is especially sad that the youth was armed and fired indiscriminately at the pessengers in the bus. He had even declared his intention of revenge against the people of Maharashtra. Under these circumstances , when the youth did not surrender , the police had to use force to overpower him and that he was killed in the process. It is a matter of shame that these politicians always smell foul when such encounters affect their elctoral prospects, it hardly matters whether such encounters involve the minorities in Jamia Nagar or a Patna youth in Mumbai. I would not have been surprised if these politicians had charged the security forces of a fake encounter when five Pakistanis were killed in Parliament attack. Besides, who can forget the noises of the politicians when Ishrat Jahan was killed in the encounter.
Shoot Raj's goondas by arjun on 2008-10-29 04:17:24.090244+05:30
Next time Raj Thakeray's goonda actvists go on a violence spree..they too should be shot by the Maharashtra police. This will give more credibility to the Bombay police.

Dear Police...dont act on behalf of politicians..You too have brain..Use that brain.. What do you think about a life?? Sahed-A-Azam by "Sahed-A-Azam" on 2008-10-28 14:34:44.778994+05:30
It is very difficult to come any conclusion,But one this is clear now,Fight begins now North vs Raj or Maharashtra,Who is main culprit:-Laloo Prasad Yadav :Lord of Northern Indian Mafia.and also Raj Thackery:Lord of MarathaI Tribal Mafia. And Indian Police forces Or IPS OR State Police forces are not bound with Indian Constitution ,they are bound with their tribal culture and acts like wage armed Or contract killer is permitted by Indian President which is bound with their mother organisation ,not our Indian Soil.Mr Rahul Raj has achieved Sahed Status. After Chandra Shekhar ,he is now become most respected "Sahed-A-Azam"

Think Again

At the time the police shot the individual the police did not know that Rahul Raj had only one pistol with him. He could have very well be carrying a bag with explosives which could have endangered the life of many "law abiding citizens". What would have been the response of the "propounders of haste theory" if Rahul Raj had a Bomb with him and he explodes it killing many bystanders and police men? The information revealed after the action has been compleated should have no relevance afterwards. When matured adult picks up a weapon he should be fully prepared to face the consequence even to the extend of paying with life.

I agree with most views that Lalu or politicians from Bihar are real culprit of the shootout episode. I would say the main factor for undeveloped Bihar is cast based politics and attitude of center toward Bihar. The factors that come into play when a x/y private firm is interested to establish a factory/company are: cast based politics for job reserved for x/y cast, hafta collection by political party and slow pace of progress in govt.. These factors effect the company and until today the Bihar manus or politicians have not given much importance to change the states attitude toward development. However most people of any undeveloped state or country support development but only a couple of thugs rule the system. The common man of Bihar or Maharashtra support development and not Politics or MSN.At the end I will add the whole episode of shooting Rahul is fishy as all evidence shown on media have plenty of holes.

This is planted story, Indian police come to conclusion without any proper test. They should do the DNA/figure print test of all room an then speak. Another flaws in police or media comments is that the Rahul was shooting with a country made gun (usually no more than 4 round can be loaded). if this guy was a killer with vengeance than he would have killed one passenger after the other until his demands are met. In India human life is cheep and the police didn't even think of negotiating with Rahul. Though negotiations they would have know the real reason for Rahul to take this grave step. May be whole shooting episode was an act to show to the whole nation that north Indians are nuts. or may be the shooting was fabricated to give back Z security to Raj Thackeray. Tomorrow if a Police in UP/Delhi kills a Maharashtra with out any provocation and fabricate the news that they were nuts from Maharashtra. The media will jump in to conclusions that this killing was an act of revenge.

Truth is the youth was carrying a weapon in a bus and had fired a few bullets. Maybe this is a norm in lalooland. Maharshtra police did the right thing.

Other than Police no one has the right to bear arms in public.Whatever may be your greviences, Shooting at innocents, can't be justified under any circumstances. Police are right in neutralizing the threat, and for sending a strong message.

In India, life of a common man is less expensive than goons.Your thought may be rationally true, which point a big question to all the goons hired by political party. As you said all goons should be shot dead without any provocation as these insects do not understand Indian law
