Indian medical equipment market to clock $2 bn

The Indian medical equipment market is estimated to grow at a CAGR of 17% over next five years.

According to a recent report by India Semiconductor Association,the Indian medical equipment market is estimated to grow at a CAGR of 17% over the next five years and reach USD 2.075 Billion (INR 9735 Cr).

The report also states that the role of semiconductor components becomes more critical as the medical equipment devices become portable and smaller.

The growth of medical equipment market is also directly proportionate to growth of healthcare delivery which stood at USD 45.36 Billion (INR 2,16,000 Cr) in 2009.

Medical imaging systems,patient monitoring systems,digital hearing aids and infusion pumps to drive electronic consumption in the space and some of the widely used semiconductor components in medical equipments are – microcontrollers,amplifiers,sensors,Digital Signal Processors (DSP) and Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASIC).

Annually,medical equipments worth USD 520 Million (INR 2450 Cr) are manufactured in India,out of which USD 75 Million (INR 350 Cr) is exported.

Dr. Devi Shetty of Narayana Hrudayalaya unveiled the report in Bangalore. According to the report,The Indian medical equipment market will cross USD 2 billion at an CAGR of 17% over the next five years.
