
The organisers of the seminar 8216;Ethics in Education8217; were taken aback when only four institutes turned up for the event on Saturday. They drew a conclusion that if the education institutions did not turn up, that means they had issues sticking to ethics.
The seminar, organised by Public Concern for Governance Trust PCGT and Arya Samaj Pune, discussed issues like capitation fees and donations during admission processes. It was also attended by officers from the Income Tax department. B G Deshmukh, former cabinet secretary and chairman of PCGT, presided the event.
While all reputed educational institutes in the city were invited, none except representatives of four institutes 8212; Synergy Institute of Management, St Meera8217;s, Arya Vidya Mandir and Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth 8211; had turned up.
8220;We had also invited All India Council for Technical Education but no one turned up,8221; said S C Nagpal, managing trustee of Arya Samaj and member of PCGT. S K Sharma, former chief commissioner of Income Tax department, Pune said that education has become a money-making business. Nagpal pressed for stringent action against corruption in education.
