The policemen involved in the Ishrat Jahan encounter returned the favour to the owner of the Arham bungalow that they used to hide the encounter victims, according to a CBI chargesheet filed on July 3.
Rajendra Jirawala, who owned Arham bungalow near Ahmedabad, has told the CBI that then police inspector of Ahmedabad crime branch J G Parmar had promised his daughter admission in a city college when he agreed to lend the bungalow for a police meeting. The house was used to hide Amjadali Akbarali Rana, who was killed along with Ishrat and two others on June 15,2004.
Jirawalas statement recorded on May 13,2013,says,Parmar had informed me he would help me admit my daughter Siddhi in H A College in Ahmedabad through Vanzara, then DCP at Ahmedabad crime branch. Accordingly, when I went to the principal of H A College,he told me he had received a call from the police officer and admission was given to my daughter from July 1,2004,in BA Commerce. My daughter had scored less marks in 12th and it was very difficult to get admission in HA college at that time.
Jirawala, who is brother of a former BJP corporator in Ahmedabad, also told CBI he had spoken to Vanzara twice after that and even invited him for his daughters wedding in 2005.
The farmhouse scheme was launched by businessman Chandraprakash Chopra. Jirawala was the developer and built the sample house.
Parmar, who was in the Ahmedabad crime branch, knew Chopra because of a prohibition case he investigated against one of his friends Raju Vaidya in 2003. To help my family friend Raju Vaidya and seek his release him from custody,I met Parmar, Chopra says in his statement to CBI.
Parmar contacted Chopra to invest in real estate and Chopra sent him to Jirawala. In 2004,Jirawala called Chopra to say Parmar was at Arham to arrange a meeting for which he had claimed Chopras clearance. Some days later,Parmar called Jirawala, who was busy seeking admission for his daughter. Arham bungalow was also used in 2005 to house Sohrabuddin Sheikh and his wife Kauser Bi,who were killed in a staged police encounter on November 26 that year.
