J Dey: Order on CBI probe reserved

As the arguments concluded, the court reserved its judgment.

Responding to a demand that the probe into the J Dey murder be handed over to the CBI,the state government strongly defended its decision to let the Mumbai Police Crime Branch investigate the case. On Tuesday, the state told the Bombay High Court that this is the same department that handled the 26/11 attack investigation.

“The petitioners haven’t placed any material to substantiate their prayer to transfer the case to the CBI,” Advocate General Ravindra Kadam told a Division Bench. While the Press Club alleged that the police were planting contradictory reports in the press, causing embarrassment to Dey’s family,Kadam said no officer directly concerned with the investigations had been speaking to the press. As the arguments concluded, the court reserved its judgment.
