Disbursement of fast-start finance, preserving the structure of the Kyoto Protocol, modalities of the review process along with issues related to equity and trade are the five key areas identified by environment minister Jairam Ramesh that need to be addressed before the climate talks in Durban this December.

“In order to generate forward momentum for progress at Durban,we need to ensure actual disbursement of fast start finance that was promised at Cancun; preserve the structure of the Kyoto Protocol and its second commitment period; work on content before deciding legal form; agree on the modalities of the review (monitoring reporting and verification) process; and resolve pending issues from Cancun such as equity,IPRs and trade,” he said while calling for a five-pronged approach to fast track climate talks.
