Haryanas Om Parkash Singh clinched the gold medal with his 19.99m shot put throw at the Senior National inter-state athletics championships on Sunday.
Giving him tough competition was Saurav Vij who touched the 19.91 mark and went on to win the silver. Om Parkash was earlier reeling on 18.64m as compared to Vijs 19.27m attempt but got back with a 19.33m throw. Until the first three attempts,Vij was clearly leading,Om Parkash overhauled the distance to clinch gold.
The day also witnessed a National record being bettered by OP Jaisha of Kerala in the Women 3000m steeplechase event later in the evening. She broke Sudha Singhs national record of 10:09:56 seconds with a scintillating effort of 10:03:05 seconds.
